London

About the development
Apex successfully partnered with Lambeth & Southwark Housing Association (LSHA) to deliver 30 high-quality affordable rent homes in Bermondsey, South London.
This landmark scheme transformed two adjacent flat blocks through an innovative design and construction approach. The development included two-storeys rooftop extension across both buildings, the creation of new ‘bookend’ structures at either end, and a central core that connected the buildings with a new lift, stairwell, and communal entrance. The new homes were delivered through a hybrid construction method combining off-site modular units with lightweight steel-frame structures built on site at the ‘bookend’ forecourts.
Completed in late 2024, the development stands as a landmark example of modern urban housing. It provided 30 much-needed affordable homes by unlocking underutilised space above and beside existing housing association blocks. By employing exoskeleton technology, the scheme avoided demolition, reduced environmental impact, and significantly enhanced facilities for existing tenants.
Located just minutes from Bermondsey, South Bermondsey and Surrey Quays stations, the development offers excellent access to both the Jubilee line and London Overground, connecting residents seamlessly to the rest of the city.
